At Temple Beth-El, Shabbat is the centerpiece of our spiritual life. It is a time of renewal, reflection, and joy. Each week, we usher in Shabbat with a blend of traditional and contemporary prayers, readings, and songs. We express our gratitude for God’s many gifts. We deepen our faith. And we garner wisdom from the Torah, our clergy, and each other.
We offer a variety of Shabbat experiences, including once-monthly family services featuring our children’s choir and young family band. The chorale and instrumental groups provide our youngest congregants with a meaningful way to begin to engage with their faith. Family services start at 7:00 p.m., an hour earlier than our regular Friday evening services.
We offer a monthly Shabbat B’shir service, a music-infused celebration of Shabbat that features our tefillah band. And once a month our adult choir enlivens the service, although COVID has interfered with out regular schedule.
For our families with very young children, we offer a Young Family Shabbat Experience on periodic Saturday mornings. Our wonderful children’s choir joins the cantor, making music a dynamic part of this experience.
Our Shabbat morning services bring together our b’nei mitzvah families, their guests, and members of our congregation. When no bar/bat mitzvah is scheduled, we come together for informal Shabbat minyan services. No matter the style of service, our clergy lead us in an interactive study of that week’s Torah portion. The result is lively conversation that has become a hallmark of our Saturday morning worship.
