At Temple Beth-El, Shabbat is the centerpiece of our spiritual life. It is a time of renewal, reflection, and joy. Each week, we usher in Shabbat with a blend of traditional and contemporary prayers, readings, and songs. We express our gratitude for God’s many gifts. We deepen our faith. And we garner wisdom from the Torah, our clergy, and each other.
Shabbat services start Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Our Friday Shabbat services are in one of four modalities:
Shabbat T’filah – Shabbat Worship
This modality is what most would consider to be ‘standard’ Friday night worship at TBE. Services will be held in the sanctuary and conducted out of our normal siddur.
Shabbat Mishpachah – Family Shabbat
At our monthly Family Shabbat service, our clergy will be joined by Michael Einiger, our youth choir, and our talented teen songleaders. We will use our youth prayerbook, Mishkan T’filah for Youth. These services are held either Friday evening or Saturday morning. On Friday evenings, Shabbat Mishpachah will be preceded by a pizza dinner. On Saturday mornings, the service will be followed by lunch.
Shabbat R’fuah – Healing Shabbat
During months containing five Shabbatot, we will reserve one Friday night as a special Shabbat focused on spiritual healing. All can benefit from this type of spiritual support.
*NEW* Shabbat K’hilah – Shabbat in-the-Round
Thanks to new grant funding, we are introducing a brand-new modality for our Friday night experience: Shabbat K’hilah. This new modality is designed with community participation as its central focus. Together we will create a beautiful and heart-opening Shabbat atmosphere. Services will be in-the-round in our social halls with our clergy and musicians creating a musical, flowing service with lots of Torah and wisdom. We will begin with light refreshments and conclude with a catered oneg.
Our Shabbat morning services bring together our brit mitzvah families, their guests, and members of our congregation. When no brit mitzvah is scheduled, we come together for Shabbat service and Torah study. No matter the style of service, our clergy lead us in an interactive study of that week’s Torah portion. The result is lively conversation that has become a hallmark of our Saturday morning worship.
For our families with very young children, we offer a Young Family Shabbat Experience on periodic Saturday mornings.
