Advocacy with RAC-NJ

Do not stand idly by the blood of your neighbor. — Leviticus 19:16

A project of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, RAC-NJ is the vehicle for Reform Jews across the Garden State to join together to impact public policy in ways that embody the principles and values of the Reform movement. RAC-NJ builds partnerships and coalitions across race, class, and faith to work toward a more just and compassionate New Jersey.

In the past year temple members have participated in house meetings, issue and skill trainings, and meetings with our state legislators to build relationships and advocate for a range of issues. In spring of 2021 our members worked in coalition with synagogues across the state and partner advocacy groups to pass the Fair Chance in Housing bill, increasing access for housing for returning citizens.

In past years our members have helped to pass gun safety legislations, drivers license access for undocumented neighbors, paid family sick leave, and more.

We also have an active Civic Engagement Team that promotes full voting participation by all eligible TBE members for all elections. We are currently working with RAC-NJ to promote Same-Day Voter Registration to securely increase voting access for all in our state.

Temple Beth-El has a strong connection with RAC-NJ, as many members are involved in its activities. To learn more, please email Liz Cohen. Or visit the organization’s web page and use the link to join the RAC-NJ group in the URJ Tent for ongoing updates.
