In the fall of 2021, TBE’s refugee resettlement committee stepped up to meet the urgent needs of Afghan evacuees settling in central New Jersey, and later, other refugees making their way to our community. Today, we hear the cries of immigrant neighbors suffering from seizures, detentions, and deportation, and feel compelled to meet the moment and respond.
Please join us on November 15 at 10:00 a.m. in the TBE Library to hear from members of Temple Ner Tamid in Bloomfield, who volunteer their time and resources to support detainees at Delaney Hall and their families. They will share their first-hand knowledge of life inside the detention center and talk about the on-the-ground experiences they have had working at the Family Tent outside of Delaney Hall. Together we will explore what our TBE community can do to help address this crisis.
For a start, we will collect gift cards on November 15 to distribute to families whose loved ones are being held in Delaney Hall. Many of these families have lost their primary income earner to detention and are struggling to pay rent and purchase food.
