Adult Trope with Cantor Wallach
6 Sessions – Tuesdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m. – January 10, 2023 – February 21, 2023

Have you wondered how Torah and Haftarah readers learn to read their portion? Did you imagine you might want to learn to do the same? Perhaps your child is in 6th or even 7th grade, and you’d like to be able to help them in their studies and share in the gifts of their learning!

Hebrew Biblical scripture is chanted in synagogues using a set of symbols called the trope, or in Hebrew, ta’amei hamikrah.  Trope is used in 6 different parts of the Hebrew Bible, with 6 different melodic patterns based on the mood of the occasion, whether it be a festival like Purim or Sukkot, or a weekly Shabbat.

This class will help you learn how to chant the trope based on a system of symbols which follow the Biblical grammar.  Ability to decode Hebrew to some degree is required.
