Student Cantor Emily Simkin cares deeply about using music as a vehicle for spirituality and fostering vibrant congregational life. She was drawn to the cantorate while a camper at URJ Camp Harlam. It was through Jewish camping that she recognized the power of music to unite community and developed a passion for Jewish life. Student Cantor Simkin aims to frame her cantorate around Jewish mindfulness, pastoral care, and experiential education.

Student Cantor Simkin holds a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her Masters of Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, where she will be ordained as a Cantor in May of 2020.

Student Cantor Simkin lives in Harlem, New York, with her husband, Adam, and their cat, Hillary (Hilly) Clinton. She enjoys yoga, painting, playing guitar, and the culinary arts. She especially likes hiking and biking with Adam.
