From TBE’s Civic Engagement Team:

We in New Jersey are in a moral moment that most of us don’t even know about: any day a New Jersey trial court will determine if New Jersey’s public education system is unconstitutionally segregated as it rules on Latino Action Network v. New Jersey.

New Jersey is the 6th most segregated state for Black students, contributing to and reflective of a host of racial disparities in our state.

RAC-NJ (Religious Action Center – New Jersey) will launch a Learning Together campaign. In this Zoom launch event, we will learn about the case, how New Jersey got so segregated, and how we can act – together – to build a more just, vibrant, and healthy New Jersey. This is our opportunity to not only understand what is happening, but how we got here and what might be better for all of us if we can transform our state to ensure that all of our children have the experience and skills they’ll need to live – joyfully together – in a multiracial, multifaith, multiethnic future.

Ryan Haygood, President and CEO of the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice and a key RAC-NJ partner, will highlight why this issue, and why now. We owe it to ourselves to take this opportunity to learn and reflect, and to begin the conversations ahead that will shape the change we want to see. Don’t miss out; register today.

As a project of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, RAC-NJ seeks to organize across lines of difference to ensure that our Reform Jewish values, including pikuach nefesh (saving lives), chesed (compassion), and tzedek (justice), are included in policymaking as our state leaders work to build a more just and compassionate society for all New Jersey residents.
